SENATOR PARSON LEADS MISSOURI DELEGATION TO MEET WITH INDIANA OFFICIALS

JEFFERSON CITY — Last week Senator Mike Parson (R-Bolivar) led a delegation from Missouri to Indiana to meet with Gov. Mike Pence, members of its legislature, and leaders of the state’s agriculture community.  The purpose was to promote Protect the Harvest, and share with Indiana officials what the Missouri Legislature encountered with agriculture issues and learned last year during the Right to Farm debate.

Protect the Harvest is an organization started by Forrest Lucas of Lucas Oil Company.  Mr. Lucas founded Protect the Harvest in response to organizations, such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), from attempting to harm American agriculture, especially the livestock industry.

“It was great to be in Indiana with my good friend, Forrest Lucas, sharing what we learned during our Right to Farm debate in Missouri,” said Parson.  During the 2013 session of the Missouri General Assembly, legislation was passed ensuring the right of farmers and ranchers to conduct their operations into the state constitution.  The measure will be on the November 2014 statewide ballot for voters to decide.  Senator Parson was the handler of the legislation when it was debated and passed by the State Senate.

The event was held at the Indiana State Capitol and drew more than 700 attendees.  “I am happy to help in any way I can with Indiana’s efforts to protect its farmers and ranchers,” said Parson, “Every state that exposes the deceptions of HSUS makes it that much more difficult for this organization to harm America’s agriculture industry”.
