JEFFERSON CITY—Senator Paul LeVota, D-Independence, is one of the honored guests scheduled to speak at a ceremony dedicating the East Stadium Drive over Interstate 435 as the “Len Dawson Bridge.” The ceremony will take place Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Penthouse Suite in Arrowhead Stadium.
Len Dawson joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 1963 and made Kansas City his home. He quickly made a name for himself in the National Football League and led the Chiefs, as quarterback, to three American Football League Champions and triumphed in Super Bowl IV, where he was named the MVP. After his retirement from the Chiefs in 1975, Dawson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987. Currently, he resides in Kansas City where he is a well-known sports director at a local news station and actively participates in charity work for organizations that aid needy children.
“I am honored to participate in the dedication of the ‘Len Dawson Bridge,’ and to speak on behalf of one of the most respected sports figures, not only on the field, but off as well. I believe that Kansas City remains one of the best football towns in America. Len Dawson’s dedication and passion towards the Chiefs and Kansas City during his career and after are an enduring testimony to that,” said Sen. LeVota.
LeVota sponsored the legislation to have East Stadium Drive over I-435 Hwy be known as “Len Dawson Bridge.” The Missouri Department of Transportation maintains three memorial designation programs in which to honor certain individuals, events, places or organizations located in the Missouri State Highway system.
