Earlier this month, severe storms and record rainfall ravaged parts of Missouri leaving many homes, businesses and public structures damaged due to flooding. Much of the southern portion of our state was affected by these storms from Aug. 2 to Aug. 14.
The governor this week requested a major disaster declaration from the federal government to assist in the rebuilding of properties claimed by the storms.
In addition to public assistance, the governor is also asking the federal government for individual assistance for uninsured households and citizens.
For farmers affected by the flooding, the Emergency Conservation Program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides a program to help crop producers rebuild fences and remove debris from their land. Farmers should notify the Phelps County Farm Service Agency office at 573-364-2088 as soon as possible to report damages requiring emergency repairs to help contain livestock or return the land to agricultural production status.
