Sen. Wasson Appointed Chairman of Financial and Governmental Organization Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jay Wasson, R-Nixa, was appointed as chairman of the Senate Financial and Governmental Organizations and Elections Committee earlier this week. He was also appointed to the Governmental Accountability and Fiscal Oversight Committee. Both committees focus on legislation related to state government, among other duties.

“I look forward to working with my fellow members on these committees as we consider important legislation this session,” said Sen. Wasson. “Our state departments, and their dedicated workers, do a wonderful job of helping the citizens of Missouri. But, we have to always be looking at ways to make our government more efficient and effective in serving the people. There is always room for improvement.”

The Committee on Financial and Governmental Organizations and Elections considers bills relating to banks and banking, savings and loan associations and other financial institutions.  The committee also works on legislation relating to departments, boards, bureaus and commissions of state government, the internal operation of any state agency, and the effect of federal legislation upon any state agency.  Legislation affecting elections in the state is also commonly referred to the committee.

Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, also announced this week that Sen. Wasson will serve on the Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government Committee, which considers legislation relating to the promotion of economic development, the creation and retention of jobs, and the promotion of tourism as a state industry.

Senator Wasson will continue serving on the Senate Small Business, Insurance and Industry Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
