Joint Committee on Administrative Rules to Consider
DOR's New Driver's License Policy

JEFFERSON CITY—The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules will meet tomorrow to consider the Department of Revenue’s new policy for issuing driver’s licenses. The department implemented new requirements to receive or renew a driver’s license last year. Those new rules were never promulgated through the appropriate process.

In early April, Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Glendale, chairman of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, called on the department to present its new policy to the committee for proper vetting.

“It is absolutely unacceptable that a state agency implemented new rules without going through the proper process, which contains a number of important safeguards for the public,” said Sen. Schmitt. “The committee will thoroughly review the new policy and hopefully have a frank discussion with department officials about why these rules were never presented to the public or the General Assembly.”
