Senate Leader Creates Interim Committee on
Medicaid Transformation and Reform

JEFFERSON CITY—Senate Leader Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, announced today the creation of the Interim Senate Committee on Medicaid Transformation and Reform. Dempsey said the committee will study options Missouri has when it comes to Medicaid reform and take an in-depth look at what other states are doing.

“We want to have a better understanding of what is really happening across the country with the Affordable Care Act,” said Dempsey. “We need to do what’s best for our state. The interim committee will be able take a good look at Missouri’s Medicaid program and see what ideas to improve efficiency and delivery can be implemented here at home.”

Dempsey named Sen. Gary Romine, R-Farmington, as chairman of the interim committee. Romine said he’s looking forward to finding a solution that works for Missouri.

“I’m happy to be selected as chairman of this committee,” said Romine.  “One of our most important jobs as legislators is to make sure those people with critical needs are cared for, but we need to find the solution that’s best for Missourians, not the federal government.”

The Senate will continue to review and discuss any responsible proposals that would eliminate waste and promote responsible delivery of vital health services to Missourians who need them.
