Bill Sponsored by Sen. Will Kraus Signed by the Governor for the Benefit of Missourians' Privacy

JEFFERSON CITY — Today (7-1), the governor added his signature to Senate Bill 252, effectively ending the scanning and retention of private documents by the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR). The bill was brought to the General Assembly by Sen. Will Kraus, R-Lee’s Summit, to protect Missourians right to privacy.

“Today, the governor signed SB 252 which guarantees the privacy of every Missourian applying for a driver’s license or non-driver’s identification. DOR will no longer scan and collect the private documents of applicants, and the department has until the end of this year to erase any documents it has already scanned. This is a great first step to reel in the privacy concerns the Legislature has had with DOR, and I applaud the governor for taking that step. Since the provisions of SB 252 take effect immediately, Missourians should now feel secure in renewing or getting their driver’s license, non-driver’s ID or CCW designation.”
