Of the more than 1,800 bills and resolutions introduced during the 2010 legislative session, 32 Senate bills and 74 House bills were passed by the Legislature and sent to the governor. Several of the bills completed in the final days of session included sweeping measures affecting DWI laws, scholarships in the state, and insurance coverage for autism.
Senate Democrats focused on three key areas during the legislative session: putting Missourians back to work, protecting education, and ensuring government integrity. Democrats managed to protect public education in Missouri despite the fact that we had to find $500 million in savings from the budget proposal the governor submitted to us in January.
In the Senate, lawmakers worked in a bipartisan fashion this session to protect public education, enact meaningful ethics reforms, and keep repeat drunk driving offenders off our roads.
As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I worked with my colleagues to comb through the state's more than $23 billion budget. It was a productive session despite the difficulties lawmakers faced with a nearly half a billion dollar hole in the budget.
In this online newsletter, you can read more about the work completed by lawmakers this session, as well as the issues that we have yet to tackle. I will continue to work with fellow legislators and pass beneficial legislation that will best serve the citizens of the 13th District and our state as a whole.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in the Missouri Senate.
