Almost anyone can become a Missouri State Senator. The only requirements are that you must be at least 30 years old, a resident of Missouri for at least three years, and a resident of your chosen district for at least one year. |

One of the most important things, of course, is that you must be elected by your fellow citizens to serve as state senator. If you are successful in getting elected, you would represent approximately 165,000 people. |

If you were elected to the Senate, your term of office would be four years, but you could run for re-election once for a total of eight years in the Missouri Senate. |

Although senators work year-round for their constituents, the most important part of their job occurs when the Senate is in session between January and May every year. For about five months, the Senate meets to consider legislation, some of which will become laws. |
