Texting While Driving Ban Discussed in Transportation Hearing

JEFFERSON CITY—The Senate Transportation Committee today (1/27) heard a bill that would ban texting while driving in Missouri—for all ages.

A law passed last year prohibits drivers 21 years of age and younger from texting while driving. This session, Sen. Ryan McKenna (D-Crystal City), who also sponsored last year’s provision, is sponsoring SB 701. The measure applies the text message ban universally so that all drivers, regardless of their age, are prohibited from texting while operating a motor vehicle.

A passing vote by the transportation committee sends SB 701 to the full Senate for debate.

The Second Regular Session of the 95th Missouri General Assembly runs through, May 14, 2010. For more information about the Missouri Senate, visit www.senate.mo.gov. To contact the Senate Newsroom, call (573) 751-3824 or e-mail newsroom@senate.mo.gov
