SCS/SB 208 - This act makes several changes to higher education law.

TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS - The State Board of Education shall approve all teacher education programs which meet the standards of North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or another accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education or accreditation standards of the Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

REGULATION OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES - The Coordinating Board shall not penalize independent institutions for failure to comply with Board policies by withholding funds or withdrawing accreditation status. The Coordinating Board shall not prevent independent institutions from establishing new programs, nor limit student financial assistance to the institution.

This act is similar to portions of SB 745 from 1998.
