This bill establishes the Jim Sears Leadership Scholarship
Program. Subject to appropriations, this program provides
scholarships for the freshman year of college at Truman State
University. The Board of Governors at Truman State is to
administer the program, including the selection of scholarship
recipients from among qualified high school seniors who have
demonstrated a strong record of leadership or community service
while in high school. To be eligible for the scholarship, a
student must meet the existing statutory requirements for
financial assistance, including residency in the state of
Missouri and maintaining status as a full-time student during
the freshman year, except that a student need not meet the
financial need requirement. Upon the provision of funds by
Truman State, scholarships are renewable for up to 6 additional
semesters for qualified recipients.
