HB 1149 -- LOCAL SALES AND USE TAXES (Campbell) This bill allows any city or county to exempt sales of certain food from local sales and use taxes by adoption of an ordinance of the local governing body. Food is defined as those food products subject to the reduced state sales and use tax rate. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
HB 1149 -- LOCAL SALES AND USE TAXES SPONSORS: Campbell, Van Zandt, Bray COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 15 to 0. This bill allows any city or county to exempt sales of certain food from local sales and use taxes by adoption of an ordinance of the local governing body. Food is defined as those food products subject to the reduced state sales and use tax rate. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill would allow cities and counties to exempt food from sales taxes. Testifying for the bill was Representative Campbell.
