HB 1091 -- KANSAS CITY POLICE SALARIES (Rizzo)

This bill increases by 9.6% the minimum and maximum annual base
salaries for the Kansas City police ranks of chief, lieutenant
colonel, major, captain, sergeant, and officer.  The bill also
makes the annual base salary range for detectives equal to that
of officers.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Urban
Affairs by a vote of 11 to 0.

This bill increases by 9.6% the minimum and maximum annual base
salaries for the Kansas City police ranks of chief, lieutenant
colonel, major, captain, sergeant, and officer.  The bill also
makes the annual base salary range for detectives equal to that
of officers.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the salary increases in this
bill help account for changes in the cost of living and are
particularly helpful to those on the lower end of the salary
scale.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Rizzo; Kansas City
Police Department; and City of Kansas City.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
