Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 976 - This act relates to the "Work Pays" Program designed through the Department of Social Services to reduce a family's dependence on welfare. The act also amends current law to ensure that Missouri will continue to guarantee child care for individuals moving from welfare to work.

The act provides for expanded earned income disregards and transitional child care benefits for up to three years for those who go to work and lose their benefits. Such child care benefits will be provided for eligible families earning up to 150% of the federal poverty level.
