SB 947 - This act changes the terms of Springfield school board members from 6-year terms to 4-year terms. Members would be elected to 4-year terms beginning in 2002 according to a repeating 4-year cycle with an annual schedule to elect 2, 0, 2 and 3 members, respectively. The following is a schedule of the transition:

1998 - (Prior to effective date) Elect 2 members to 6 year terms. 1999 - No election. 2000 - Elect 3 members to 5-year terms. 2001 - No election. 2002 - Elect 2 members to 4-year terms. 2003 - No election. 2004 - Elect 2 members to 4-year terms. 2005 - Elect 3 members to 4-year terms.

A term limit of no more than two consecutive terms shall continue to apply to such board members. Current law limits directors to no more than two consecutive 6-year terms.
