Current Bill Summary

SB 941 - This act deals with Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) eligibility. AFDC has been replaced by the Federal government with Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Therefore, a person no longer has to qualify for AFDC to receive Medicaid. This act disconnects the association between AFDC and Medicaid in the state statutes.

The act goes further to make sure that people remain eligible for public assistance despite gains received from child or spousal support. If the collection or increased collection of child or spousal support moves someone from public assistance, that person will be given an additional four months of eligibility.
