Current Bill Summary

SB 901 - This act requires minors under age 18 applying for driver's licenses to have completed an approved driver education course or to have graduated from high school. Courses shall be approved by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in accordance with the standards given in the act.

The DPS shall develop and provide standard certificates of completion. An extra fee shall be charged by the driver ed programs to cover the state costs. The act has an effective date of September 1, 1999.
