Current Bill Summary

SB 686 - This act would eliminate the "loss of accreditation" penalty for certain "hold harmless" school districts. Under current law, Section 163.023, RSMo, districts are classified "unaccredited" if they fail to maintain the $2.75 minimum levy. Exempted from this requirement are those districts whose local and county revenues exceed their state aid entitlement (generally districts with very high property wealth). The act would expand this exemption to include those hold harmless districts which would receive the same amount of state aid as they currently do, even if they levied the $2.75 minimum levy.
