SCS/SB 609 - Current law provides that any person who presents a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association shall be granted a teaching certificate allowing the person to teach in the major area of post graduate study. The act provides that a certificate may be provided in similar manner to the holder of a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) or Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree.

Provisional certification shall be allowed to a person with more than 5 years of out-of-state teaching experience in that curriculum area and approximate grade level.
