Current Bill Summary

SB 563 - This act would allow the Commissioner of Education to contract with a CPA firm to cause an audit of a school district's enrollment and attendance records. The audit shall include a physical student count on a randomly selected, unannounced date. The audit shall be independently conducted according to accepted standards, as currently provided for biennial audits under Section 165.121, RSMo. The written report of audit findings shall be made to the Commissioner and the district school board.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shall pay the audit costs and shall be reimbursed through withholding of the audited district's state aid payments. The withholding shall be in equal amounts over the next twelve months following the audit.
