Current Bill Summary

SB 57 - The Department of Corrections may require offenders to work and may also require offenders participating in work programs to wear shackles and chains. Offenders convicted of first degree murder, first degree assault, forcible rape, or forcible sodomy shall not be placed in such work programs. Offenders in work programs may not receive unemployment compensation or workers' compensation.

Section 217.337, RSMo, contains similar work provisions. This act is nearly identical to SB 658 from 1996.
