HB 1428 Compensation for County Officials
Bill Summary

SCS/HB 1428 - This act is a revision of salary schedules for county officers. This is the first such attempt after the passage of SB 431 in 1988.

The Senate Committee Substitute contains salary tables which will apply to the county officers in third classification counties. Before the act is taken up for debate, salaries for other county classifications will also be adjusted.

Within third classification counties, the salaries of collectors, clerks, assessors and recorders have been equalized.

There are provisions for a cost of living adjustment for county officers and raises for specific county prosecutors.

All public administrators, instead of only first classification public administrators as is the situation at present, and all county coroners will be members of the County Salary Commission in their counties.

Finally, there have been some changes in language pertaining to public administrators. A number of these changes were to make the language gender neutral.
