SJR 18 - This resolution would submit a constitutional amendment which, if approved by Missouri voters, would revise the selection of members of the State Board of Education. Currently, the Board consists of eight members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate to eight year terms.
Under the resolution, nine members shall be elected, as
provided by law, beginning at the general election in 1998, to
four year terms, except as otherwise provided by law for the
terms of the first members elected. Existing, appointed members
shall serve the remainder of their terms.
