Current Bill Summary

SB 467 - Current law requires school districts to educate special pupils domiciled in other districts but assigned to, and residing in, facilities within the district by the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Social Services or by a court. Schools providing these educational services may then bill back to the sending district for tuition costs and may bill the Division of Family Services for excess costs of educating pupils placed in facilities in the district by the Division.

The act extends the requirement to educate and the opportunity to bill back to the sending district for tuition to all other pupils placed or assigned to a facility in the district. The act extends the opportunity to seek reimbursement for excess costs to all other pupils placed or assigned to a facility in the district by the Division of Family Services.
