Current Bill Summary

SB 54 - This act increases restrictions against unfair discrimination in property and automobile insurance.

Missouri's current redlining prohibition is broadened to include automobile insurance. Insurers may not terminate brokers or agents for geographic reasons, and the exception for when discrimination is proper is written more precisely. Persons discriminated against for any of nine reasons under Section 375.936(11), RSMo, can file complaints, and the Director of the Department of Insurance is required to investigate.
