Current Bill Summary

HCS/SB 35 - This act would change the law relating to the practice of dentistry by creating the position of "Expanded Functions Dental Assistant" and defining the practice of dental assistant to include the act of polishing teeth.

The act also allows the Missouri Dental Board to create rules and regulations which would define the areas of reversible practice that may be performed by dental hygienists, dental assistants, certified dental assistants, and expanded functions dental assistants who are under the direct supervision of a currently registered and licensed dentist in Missouri.

This act also removes from the definition of the practice of dentistry "a person who attempts to perform or does perform or do any preventive, remedial, corrective, or restorative dentistry or dental service or dental operation in the human mouth."

The act as an emergency clause.
