HB 355 -- State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors

This bill increases the number of members of the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors from 6 to 8. No more than 4 can be of the same political party. Current law says that board members must either be a licensed embalmer or licensed funeral director. This bill allows an officer or a director of a state registered third-party preneed seller to be appointed as a member of the board. Such appointees consideration of board issues will be limited to administration and authority of the board and funeral contracts.

The bill also requires that at least 2 of the members of the board be officers or directors of third-party preneed sellers. No 2 board members, whether embalmers, funeral directors, or third party sellers may work as an employee, consultant, independent contractor, officer or director, for the same or on behalf of the same business or affiliated entity.
