HB 254 -- Physical Therapy

Along with various technical changes, this bill establishes a new definition for physical therapist. The bill also prohibits the Board of Healing Arts from issuing licenses or allowing individuals to sit for the state examination if they have failed other state examinations 3 or more times.

The bill contains provisions regarding reciprocation. The board must issue reciprocating licenses as long as the other state's requirements are equal to or greater than those of Missouri. Reciprocation fees will be the same as those paid by individuals who are examined by the board. Temporary licenses will only be renewed one time if an individual fails to sit for the next scheduled examination, unless that individual can show the board good cause for missing the examination. The board may also issue temporary licenses to applicants if they submit to the board an agreement-to-supervise form, signed by a supervising physical therapist, certifying that they will engage in the practice of physical therapy only under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
