HB 27 -- Sex Education

This bill defines course material and content for any public school sex education program. Sex education courses are required to include discussions of abstinence from sexual intercourse as 100% effective protection against unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Additionally, instruction must include but is not limited to discussion of the emotional and psychological consequences of preadolescent and adolescent sex, the values of monogamous heterosexual marriage, and the laws of this state relating to statutory rape and financial responsibility for children born out of wedlock. Any comprehensive sex education course must include information on acquired immune deficiency syndrome but must allow students to decline to participate in this portion of the course.
