Current Bill Summary

SB 943 - This act permits advanced practice registered nurses, physician assistants, and assistant physicians to order restraints when treating a patient in a hospital; provided, that the advanced practice registered nurse, physician assistant, or assistant physician has a collaborative practice arrangement and the hospital's policies for ordering, authorizing, monitoring, and withdrawing restraints is consistent with the standards set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Nothing in this act shall modify or supercede current law regarding the use of restraints for patients, residents, or clients of facilities or programs operated by the Department of Mental Health, hospitals providing psychiatric care, and in dedicated psychiatric units of general acute care hospitals.
