Current Bill Summary

SB 235 - This act authorizes a taxpayer of a home rule city whose fire department has provided ambulance services to the city for at least thirty years and is also paying taxes to a charter county-wide ambulance district to file a petition to the election authority of that city requesting that the residents of that city pay taxes for ambulance services to only one entity. The entities shall then have 60 days to negotiate an agreement by which simultaneous payment of taxes to both entities for ambulance services will be eliminated. If the entities cannot reach such an agreement, the question of which service provider to retain shall be placed on the following general, primary, or municipal ballot. The entity selected by the vote will then become the sole provider of ambulance services at the beginning of the city's following fiscal year, and the entity not selected by the vote will cease collecting taxes. The costs of the election shall be paid by the entity not selected by the vote.
