Current Bill Summary

SB 181 - This act requires a firearm owner to report the loss or theft of the firearm within 72 hours of discovering the loss or theft to the local law enforcement agency in the municipality or county in which the loss or theft occurred.

Failure to report a lost or stolen firearm is an infraction.

This act specifies that the recovery of a lost or stolen firearm by law enforcement when the firearm has not been reported as such may be considered evidence that the last recorded owner of the firearm failed to report it as lost or stolen.

This act is similar to HB 185 (2017) and is identical to SB 691 (2016).
