HCS/SS/SB 623 - This act raises the motor fuel tax by 5.9 cents per gallon which increases the tax from 17 cents to a total of 22.9 cents per gallon starting January 1, 2017.

Currently the taxes on compressed natural gas fuel and liquefied natural gas fuel are set to increase in phases over the next 10 years. This act also increases the tax on compressed natural gas fuels by 5.9 cents per gallon of gasoline equivalent and on liquefied natural gas fuels by 5.9 cents per gallon of diesel equivalent at each phase of the increase.

Alternative fuel decal fees for vehicles are raised by $25 and the owner or operator of a model 2017 or newer plug-in electric hybrid vehicle is only required to pay 50% of the stated annual alternative fuel decal fee.

This act contains a referendum clause.
