SB 479 - Current law provides that as of August 29, 1959, all persons licensed as midwives under Chapter 334, which regulates physicians and surgeons, are subject to regulation under such provisions of law. This act states that as of August 29, 2015, persons licensed by an organization accredited by the National Organization for Competency Assurance to provide pregnancy services shall be deemed to be licensed as midwives under Chapter 334, and subject to regulation.

The act also provides that within one hundred eighty days of passage of the act the State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts shall promulgate rules and regulations establishing procedures and qualifications necessary for the licensure of midwives.
