Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 144 - This act requires the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to create best practice guidelines in gender pay equality for state and local government and private businesses. Such guidelines may include, but not be limited to, explanations of the following:

• What gender pay equality is;

• Why gender pay inequality happens;

• The benefits of gender pay equality; and

• How to achieve gender pay equality.

The guidelines must take effect upon approval of a concurrent resolution by the General Assembly approving such guidelines. Moreover, the act does not create a cause of action for any employee and no employer is required to adopt any guidelines.

This act is identical to HB 44 (2015) and similar to a provision in HCS/SCS/SB 107 (2015).
