HB 1477 Modifies provisions on confidential medical test results

SCS/HB 1477 -Under current law, all medical testing results and personal information relating to genetic testing and obtained from any individual shall be held confidential with certain exceptions. This act provides that notwithstanding any provision to the contrary, no consent shall be required for the department to disclose such testing results and information of a newborn infant to a health care provider providing treatment to the infant.

This act also modifies the provisions relating to the Metabolic Formula Distribution Program. Under current law, formula for the treatment of inherited diseases of amino acids and organic acids are provided to persons meeting certain criteria and an income-based means test determined by the Department of Health and Senior Services. This act modifies those provisions to provide that in addition to the current program, the formula shall be available to an applicant between the ages six to eighteen whose family income is below three hundred percent of the federal poverty level.

This act is similar to SCS/SB 1131 (2006) and SCS/SB 1251 (2006).
