Current Bill Summary

HCS/SB 2 - This act modifies the livestock price discrimination provisions. The livestock discrimination provisions will be construed consistently with the Federal Packers and Stockyards Act as it relates to live cattle, swine or sheep. New price discrimination language is added which prohibits livestock packers from engaging in certain activities and is similar to the requirements of the Federal Packers and Stockyards Act. The Attorney General will enforce the provisions and the Director of the Department of Agriculture will refer violations to the Attorney General. The ability of an individual to bring suit is repealed.

The provisions of these sections will sunset on December 31, 2003.
