SS/SCS/SCR 5 - This resolution creates a Child Abuse and Neglect Commission within the Governor's office. The Commission will review the laws relating to children's issues and make recommendations, including standardized guidelines for defining the best interests of the child. Its members will include a prosecutor, law enforcement officer, juvenile officer, clergy, pediatrician, psychologist, educator, Chair of the Children's Services Commission, a Division of Family Services representative and 3 citizens. Initial members will serve staggered 2-, 3-, or 4-year terms and members thereafter will serve 4-year terms. The Commission must make its first report to the Governor, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and General Assembly by February 1, 2002. Any subsequent reports will be made as necessary. Members will be reimbursed for expenses and the Governor's office will provide funding and staff.
