Current Bill Summary

SB 571 - This act requires distribution of marriage license fees to the Department of Public Safety for domestic violence shelters. Currently, Sections 451.151, 448.445, and 448.607, RSMo, impose certain marriage license and court fees. New language requires such fees to be forwarded to the Director of the Department of Public Safety for distribution to shelters for victims of domestic violence. Section 455.227 requires the Director to forward such payments after determining, at least annually, which facilities qualify as shelters. The Director may require information from such facilities to aid in his or her determination. Any unused fees may be redistributed by the Director.
