Current Bill Summary

SB 86 - This act requires a public vote for the adoption of a building code in all counties which do not have a building code prior to August 28, 2001. Current law only requires a vote by county commission in first and second classification counties. This act provides provisions for the repeal of a county building code regardless of when it was implemented.

Voters in an incorporated area would not vote on the county proposal, as it would not affect those areas under existing statutes.

This act is similar to SB 749 (2000); SB 38 (1999); HB 264 (1997).
