Current Bill Summary

SB 15 - This act would revise the selection criteria for the Clean Water Commission.

The Commission currently consists of six members and must have exactly two members who are knowledgeable concerning the needs of agriculture, industry or mining and interested in protecting these needs in a manner consistent with state law. The act requires that the Commission also include two members knowledgeable of and associated with publicly-owned treatment works. One of those members shall be associated with a treatment works serving fewer than 50,000 persons and one with a treatment works serving at least 50,000 persons.

The act also requires that all new members shall have demonstrated an interest and knowledge about water quality and shall be qualified to provide, assess and evaluate relevant information about water quality, financial requirements and the effects of standards and rules.
